Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
The blonde was neither dumb nor a gold-digger. A woman that wanted happiness, but ended life in tragedy.

A name that synonymous with charismatic, I got to know about Marilyn Monroe few years back. All I read was how she was an icon, loved by her fans but passed away tragically. Only post blonde trailer did I actually delve deep into her story. Born as Norma Jean, married at 16, starting her Hollywood career in the 50s playing blonde bombshell, multiple marriages, used by the industry to her death. Her story reminds me of dramedy a genre of drama and tragedy.
But who is at fault?
This question is something that I thought constantly when I read about her. She transcends generations, the fact she is still talked about at despite being dead since 1962. This makes me question had Marilyn been alive would she still be an icon. I have noticed that most iconic people of pop culture all died at a certain age, reached a peak of their career, faced inner demons that pulled them down. Marilyn’s story was similar the fact she was a foster child who was abused, growing up without a father I believe she longed for a man that would love, respect and cherish her.
The saddest fact was that from what I read and saw was she played as a dumb blonde a stereotype in Hollywood those days. She was an avid reader that truth would never fade, she wanted to be taken seriously as an actor but people saw her as a unattainable symbol, an object of desire. Again I can’t really blame the audiences those days, because she was marketed as such that made men what a women like her, and women wanted to be like her. If she were alive today I would ask her “Who are you?”.
I strongly feel Marilyn was a false narrative to make people happy and businesses to profit. I am saying so because I saw this video post her divorce(she almost retired from Hollywood after her marriage) to only return in that, she was asked how she feels to be back she says “She is fine” or along the lines but her expressions convey a different story. They say mouth lies, eyes can never the look is what made me think was she unhappy definitely yes. The thing about over-glorification of a human, you don’t really know is they are also humans who make mistakes might be going through various emotions at once.
People I feel fail to understand this, reminds me of a similar incident in which football star Ronaldo was booed, his performance dipped and everyone was belittle him. One needs to understand that he is a human not god, his performance is at times high to low. It’s okay we don’t always perform a hundred percent. Marilyn also went through a curve, she is said to have had mental health issues that were known only to those around her. She was a troubled woman, who wanted someone it doesn’t matter if your the most desirable in the world with loneliness one does feel not loved. One might be surrounded by hundreds of people still feel lonely, it definitely means something more. The restless souls go in search of what they don’t have in their life.
Marilyn’s life shouldn’t be viewed as a tragedy by doing so one wrongs the dead. She had a life full of mixed emotions, but I am sure she did find someone that loved her whether she got to spend those moments with that person or not I don’t know. Love breaks barriers of different outliers, a power that both transforms lives and destroy. It is us humans who have to choose who we love, there is nothing that says, self-destruction than falling in love and trusting the wrong people.
